Welcome to the landing page for all things academic.
Dr Andrew Maxwell is a professional academic with research interests in Electrical Engineering, Maker Spaces, and Engineering Education, and is published in these areas.
He also provides keynote speeches and radio show segments on a wide variety of topics from the impacts of engineering in society, latest technology trends (including that pesky AI), latest gizmos and gadgets, through to technology failures, and staying safe on the internet.
Dr Andrew Maxwell has been a working Australian University Academic for the past 30+ years, and is well versed in TEQSA (Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency) requirements, as well as general university governance systems and needs.
On top of this he has also assisted QCAA in developing and validating High School examinations and curriculum, and looks forward to continuing this service.
Dr Maxwell’s teaching areas are wide ranging from first year courses to research Masters and PhDs.
Dr Maxwell also excels at online teaching using a variety of platforms, specialising in online video tutorials and video practicals working with students over video conferencing to develop and diagnose experiments and equipment.
Dr Maxwell has just recently taught the following variety of courses.
- First Year Problem Solving – How to think like an engineer, work in a team, and develop the necessary research and communication skills to study and work effectively with others.
- Quantum mechanics for beginners – Studying basic electro and magneto dynamics, electromagnetics, the nature of the universe, and Maxwell’s Equations (circa 1850 – James Clerk Maxwell, yes, a relative I believe)
- Electronics Basics – learning about electrical principles both for small signal (popularly called “electronics”) , and large signal (“power engineering”)
- Final Year Projects – helping students complete a final capstone
- Practical Demonstrations – extensive practical demonstration and training experience teaching, and workshopping topics from physics, chemistry (i.e. applied physics), physiology, biomedical engineering, electronics, construction, mechanics, structural, programming, signal processing, making and maker spaces, 3D printing, 3D design, video production, and more.
He is available for casual teaching and marking, as well as more significant academic duties and positions.
